Storybox Ink Studios Designs Packaging For Hit Barack Obama Action Figure Toy Line
Jason Fienberg of Jailbreak Toys In Brooklyn, N.Y. wanted a package design with mass appeal and an indie design sense for his Barack Obama action figure. He approached Storybox Ink Studios. The principals, Nelson X Asencio and Manny Jesus have over 10 years experience building complete toy lines from product concept to final packaging. Jason wanted a design that could fit into retail displays, yet standout alongside competing product from larger manufacturers. The package would have meet requirements of small retailers with low order numbers and larger mass retail planogram without incident.
The result was a compelling design inspired by pop art and the Barack Obama campaigns grass roots origins. The portrait art and illustrations portray Barack Obama as an iconic almost super hero type figure. The resulting package was so well received that orders from retailers such as Borders, Urban outfitters and others poured in. At the Democratic National Convention in Denver Colorado the action figure sold through $15,000 units in a single day, thrusting Jason Fienberg from part-time English professor to successful full time toy manufacturer overnight. Additional paint variants, clothing and posters were made using Storybox Ink Studios Artwork.
